The Parks and Recreation Commission is an advisory body to the City Council on parks and recreation issues and oversees the provision and utilization of the City’s recreation facilities and activities.
Parks and Recreation Commission meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 101 E Street, 6:00 pm. If you would like to place an item on the agenda please contact the Parks and Recreation Department at (209) 874-2328.
PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT MISSION
It is the mission of the Waterford Parks and Recreation to provide diverse year-round leisure opportunities through the preservation of open space, park settings, recreational facilities and programs that promote citizen involvement and a strong sense of community while striving to increase the social, cultural, and physical well-being of its residents and visitors.
HOW DO I BECOME A PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEMBER?
The Parks and Recreation Commission shall consist of five members appointed by the mayor with the approval of the City Council. The members shall serve without compensation except for reimbursement of reasonable expenses incurred in performing the duties of the commission when approved by the City Council. The members of the Parks and Recreation Commission shall not be elected, appointed officials, nor employees of the city.
A term of office of Parks and Recreation Commission members shall be two-year terms beginning on July 1st of the year of their appointment, and ending on the second June 30th thereafter, except that such members shall hold office at the pleasure of the City Council and may be removed from office at any time with or without cause by a majority vote of the City Council.
Vacancies shall be filled by appointment by the Mayor with the approval of the City Council for any unexpired term.
