AFTER A HEAVY RAIN MY STREET FLOODS

If your street carries a lot of water during heavy storms, it is functioning exactly as intended. When residential subdivisions are designed, the lots are graded to allow the storm water runoff to drain to the street.  The streets are built on a slope which will carry the storm water to a nearby creek, channel, or storm drain system. During small storms, you may just notice water in the gutters. But in more major events, the water may inundate a larger portion of the road. In extreme conditions, the water may even over-top the curb and use the “parkway” (up to and including the sidewalk area) as well.  Please be aware that it will take the Storm Drains some time to keep up with the sudden rain fall demands and that our Public Works Department is making sure they are being run correctly.

If you have any concerns regarding flooding reaching your home, please take a look at the sandbag information available under the Public Works page.
