City Boards, Commissions, and Committees generally include groups of dedicated citizens appointed to one of three types of bodies:
- Decision-making bodies
- Advisory bodies
- Ad-hoc Committees
Membership in City of Waterford Boards, Commissions and Committees provides citizens with an opportunity to play a vital role in shaping our City’s future and maintaining and improving its quality of life.
The organization of board membership varies. Some are comprised exclusively of citizens appointed by the City Council, others include a combination of citizens and elected officials, while others are comprised solely of elected officials.
The City maintains advisory bodies to the City Council. In addition, other opportunities exist on county or regional, many of which are required city representatives nominated by the City Council.
DECISION MAKING BODIES COMPOSED EXCLUSIVELY OF ELECTED OFFICIALS INCLUDE:
- Waterford City Council
- Waterford Successor Agency to the former Redevelopment Agency
- Waterford Public Financing Authority
ADVISORY BODIES: (Standing Commissions/Committees)
The purpose of some of the Commissions (such as the Planning Commission) include both advisory and decision making authority. The membership of the advisory Commissions/Committees listed below are appointed by the City Council.
- Community Development, Housing Rehabilitation and Affordable Housing Loan Committee
- Joint City/School Board Committee
- Parks & Recreation Commission
- Planning Commission
- Waterford Traffic Committee
ADHOC COMMITTEES: (Temporary Committees)
A temporary advisory committee composed solely of less than a quorum of the legislative body that serves a limited or single purpose, that is not perpetual, and that will be dissolved once its specific task is completed.
